Best Mini Split Air Filters and Replacement Parts by Brand
How to choose OEM vs generic mini split filters for Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, and Fujitsu without buying the wrong washable or disposable part.
Mini split filter shopping is easy to get wrong because the word “filter” covers at least three different things: the main washable mesh filter, small accessory air-cleaning filters, and random cut-to-fit media sold online. The main filter is usually a model-specific plastic frame. The smaller deodorizing, anti-allergy, catechin, or PM2.5 filters may be washable, replaceable, or not washable at all depending on the brand and model.
The safest rule is boring: find the indoor unit model number first, then buy the filter that the manufacturer or parts diagram lists for that unit. Do not buy by outdoor condenser model, tonnage, or a product photo that “looks close.”
Quick recommendations
- Mitsubishi: use OEM or model-matched replacements for the main filter and specialty inserts.
- Daikin: clean the main air filter regularly, but check the manual before washing any deodorizing or PM2.5 accessory filter.
- LG: follow the front-panel type and filter type shown in the support guide; LG notes that some functional filters are consumables.
- Fujitsu: pay attention to the difference between the main washable filter and optional air-cleaning filters with defined service life.
- Generic filters: only use them when they match the exact frame and do not restrict airflow.
Main mesh filters vs specialty filters
The large mesh filters behind the front panel catch dust and lint before air reaches the coil. On many wall-mounted units, these are washable and reusable. Manufacturer maintenance pages commonly recommend vacuuming or washing them and drying them in the shade before reinstalling.
Specialty filters are different. Daikin’s operation manual guidance, for example, distinguishes the washable main air filter from optional deodorizing and PM2.5-style filters. Some can be washed at intervals, while others should not be washed because washing reduces performance. Daikin filter manual
That distinction matters when Amazon listings use broad phrases like “air purifying filter” or “replacement filter.” A cheap insert may fit the holder but not perform like the original part.
Mitsubishi filters
Mitsubishi Electric guidance commonly points owners toward cleaning filters about every two weeks during heavy use, using vacuuming or water washing, and avoiding heat or direct sun while drying. Mitsubishi’s U.S. maintenance guidance also notes that many filters are removable and washable. Mitsubishi Electric filter cleaning Mitsubishi Electric HVAC maintenance tips
For Mitsubishi, I would buy OEM or model-matched parts for anything that clips into the indoor unit. Some model families use optional anti-allergy enzyme filters, deodorizing filters, or nano-platinum filters. Those are not interchangeable just because they are small rectangles.
Buy by the indoor unit number printed on the wall head, such as the MSZ or MLZ model family, then cross-check the filter part number.
Daikin filters
Daikin’s maintenance guidance says cleaning the filter about once every two weeks is recommended for split and multi-split air conditioners, and its manual pages explain that some accessory filters are washable only at longer intervals while other PM2.5-style filters should not be washed. Daikin maintenance tips Daikin filter manual
That makes Daikin a good example of why generic advice fails. The main filter might be washable. A specialty filter in the same indoor unit might be a timed replacement part. Treat the manual as the source of truth.
LG filters
LG’s support material notes that wall-mounted air-conditioner filter removal varies by front-panel type and that functional filters such as deodorization or virus filters may vary by model. It also says some filters are not washable and must be replaced on their regular cycle. LG filter cleaning support
For LG mini splits, do not assume the part from one indoor head fits another just because both are LG. Match the model number and look at the panel style.
Fujitsu filters
Fujitsu’s filtration pages describe air-cleaning filters with service-life guidance; one example says a filter can be used for approximately three years if washed with water when dirty to restore surface action. Fujitsu air filtration
That does not mean every Fujitsu filter lasts three years. It means you should identify the exact filter type. Main washable filters, catechin-style filters, deodorizing filters, and optional air-cleaning kits can have different maintenance rules.
When generic filters make sense
Generic filters can make sense for a non-critical accessory insert if:
- the listing names your exact indoor unit model;
- the dimensions and tab layout match;
- the material does not block airflow;
- the manual allows that type of filter;
- you are not replacing a specialized OEM filter with a random foam pad.
They make less sense for the main mesh filter frame. A poor-fitting main filter can rattle, bypass dust, or fall out of position.
Replacement parts worth buying with filters
If you are already maintaining the indoor head, a few small parts are useful:
- spare remote batteries;
- a soft brush vacuum attachment;
- a condensate drain cleaning brush for accessible drain hose sections;
- replacement remote if the original is failing;
- model-matched filter clips or frames if damaged.
Do not buy coil cleaner as a casual add-on unless the product is approved for your situation and you know how to protect electronics, wall finishes, and the drain pan. Deep cleaning belongs with a proper mini split cleaning bag, careful technique, or a technician.

Use OEM or exact model-matched filters when fit matters. Generic filters are acceptable only when they match the manual and do not restrict airflow. The main washable filter is maintenance; specialty filters are parts. Treat them differently.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are mini split filters universal?
The large washable mesh filters are not safely universal. Size, frame tabs, airflow direction, and optional filter holders vary by indoor unit model. Buy by the indoor unit model number, not only by brand.
Should I buy OEM or generic filters?
Use OEM for main mesh filters, specialty deodorizing filters, anti-allergy filters, and any part that clips into a precise frame. Generic pre-cut media can make sense only when the manual allows it and it does not restrict airflow.
How often should mini split filters be cleaned?
Many wall-mounted units recommend checking or cleaning main filters about every two weeks in heavy use, but the right schedule depends on dust, pets, runtime, and the exact model.
